I wrote a piece for Startups Magazine exploring a theme I see often in fast growth businesses which is that scaling a company is one thing but scaling judgement is another.  Many founders are building at pace in environments that are more complex and polarised than even a few years ago. Culture, challenge, and decision making under pressure now show up earlier in a company’s life cycle.

In the article, I explore why politeness alone doesn’t build strong cultures and how the ability to handle respectful challenge is becoming a core leadership skill. I also share practical reflections on creating teams that can think well together under pressure, not just get along.

The piece draws on themes from my white paper Leadership in Complex Times which reflects on what steadier leadership looks like when the stakes are real and the answers aren’t obvious.
